GLASS ONION: A KNIVES OUT MYSTERY -or- NO ONION, NO CRY: ANOTHER SOLID "CLUE" SEND-UP *AKA* An almost TOO cute little mystery.
I liked GLASS ONION, not quite as much as KNIVES OUT, but it was fun. I watched before watching THE MENU, also highly recommended - an especially as a double feature with this movie.
AVANTI!
"Glass Onion: A knives out mystery" is the second film featuring the exploits of "Master Detective" BENOIT BLANC, a pastiche of literary detectives - most pointedly, Hercule Poirot.
In this mystery, Benoit finds himself to be a surprise guest of an Elon Musk-like multi-billionaire entrepreneur, amongst a menagerie of colorful (and colorfully dressed) caricatures of the rich and famous. The mystery, a contrivance of the host, soon turns into a real mystery the canny detective must dive into.
This movie was fun to watch, a pleasant diversion from the soft-serve incontinence of the past few reviews. For a movie that has "Mystery" in the title, there isn't much of a mystery so much as there is a fun examination of mystery characters, a concept I support. Everyone seems to be having fun with their characters, and that fun shows throughout the runtime of the movie, though there are some (not many) "Look at this clever thing I'm doing" moments that reek of dry-wank. It is better to be smart than clever. Good times, but falls short of Knives out.
THE GOOD:
Great cast and great performances, sight and sound is on point, solid editing, and the writing is well done.
THE BAD
The show is slow to get going, and a few cutsie moments were slightly annoying, but overall not much to piss about. Oh wait, I hate the Beatles - there's one.
SEE IT:
If you liked the first one, want to see something fun, and definitely were a fan of the CLUE movie.
DON'T SEE IT:
If you're currently dealing with winged simians at your door getting pushy about silver footwear.
