BUDDY -or- CRUD-DY: The missed opportunity AKA Spare yourself from one more (add mundane thing here) but it's evil movie.

Release Date 28Aug2026

This movie is not good, or entertaining, or worth a so-bad-it's-good watch.

BUDDY is billed as a 2026 postmodern supernatural comedy horror film. It is none of those.

What it is... is a miasma of kitbashed ideas that could have made for something decent, but instead lands harder than the morning after Pepper X chili dogs and Milwaukee's Best.

NO SPOILERS!

Children trapped in a BARNEY-style 90s kid show try to escape from this alternate reality, and its evil titular host. Blah, blah, blah – f#ckery.

There was the seed of a good, or at least entertaining, movie here. Sadly, what you get is a just-over-90-minute YouTube video. May have been better off an 8-minute shorty, instead of an hour and a half in the tannery of aggressive concept stretching.

This was also the birthday girl's movie. After END OF OAK STREET, I should have known better than to go in blind. Fool me once, shame on... shame on you. Fool me... you can't get fooled again.

With a bit more work, this could have been interesting, and there is precedent for this very thing working. Remember DEATH TO SMOOCHY? If not, watch it. If you do, then you understand what very little work it would take to turn that movie into a legitimately disturbing horror film with actual moments of dark humor.

What you get is as empty and useless as rubber teeth. Sorry, AM.

THE GOOD:

95 minutes doesn't feel that long. There is an idea for a good movie here.

THE BAD:

Everything else. The casting of "names" as characters with limited screentime or voice acting is, with the exception of KEEGAN-MICHAEL KEY, obvious. It also adds nothing and goes nowhere. It isn't funny or clever. It most certainly is not scary, and what passes as disturbing (not that it should be so for its own sake) is the same as asking for no spice in your Thai food.

SEE IT!

...Nah. Though it has made several times its budget back, over 20 mil on a 3 mil budget, and will likely get a sequel. Stream NO!

DON'T SEE IT!

Huzzah, excelsior!
