The Pissed Take - Deadpool & Wolverine

DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE -or- RYAN AND HUGH'S VIOLENT PLAY-DATE AKA A totally enjoyable, cartoonishly violent, popcorn buttered nothing. (Totally fine)

Release Date 26Jul2024

I liked this one. About as substantial as the concessions you buy, but that's the point so…

DEADPOOL AND WOLVERINE is the third in the Deadpool series of movies, from Disney after their acquisition of 20th Century Fox. It is based on the Marvel comics character Deadpool, created by FABIAN NICIEZA and ROB LIEFELD. The character's first appearance was in NEW MUTANTS '#98, December 1990.

NO SPOILERS

This movie concerns the meeting of these two iconic "Superheroes" fighting against the f#ckery, and transitioning from the FOX movies into the MCU proper. Tons of cameos, butt-sex jokes, ultraviolence, and chain expletive laced f#ckery ensues through the multiverse.

This movie was one that I'd looked forward to this year. The previous films were fine pieces of corn-fluff that were fun to sit through. This one is no slouch after the move to the mouse, but does occasionally feel overstuffed. Though, rarely does this pose a problem to the overall experience. These DP movies were always meant to be enjoyable empty calories, this movie knows it and works it into the experience very well.

THE GOOD:

RYAN REYNOLDS still owns this character and plays it (Them) with infectious energy. The guy's got "a thing - one thing", and boy does he work it. HUGH JACKMAN shows he still has more to give with a character he started playing almost 25 years ago. He knocks it out of the park! The supporting cast does well, especially some fun cameos. The clear love and homage to comics in general is bukkake'd all over this movie... a good thing.

THE BAD:

A few things: There are no real stakes, you don't feel that either of the leads are in danger, or what they're fighting for matters. Deadpool breaking the 4th wall on more than one occasion just seemed like Ryan Reynolds breaking the 4th wall. The pop music numbers - why I wore headphones in the mall. I don't need to hear NSYNC on a $150,000 sound system! F#ck outta here.

SEE IT!

Sure! It's a fun movie and the best thing to come out of the MCU since... Damn, it's been a while.

DON'T SEE IT!

Fine! You joyless, malodorous, insensate, gibbering clod - don't see it. Begone, and back to the reek with you! Maybe watch "Son of the Mask".

Deadpool's left hand clad in red and Wolverine's right hand clad in yellow are together forming a heart. The backgroud is black with chalk graffiti.
