The Pissed Take - Zack Snyder's Justice League

Release Date 18Mar2021

ZACK SNYDER'S JUSTICE LEAGUE -AKA- Zack Snyder's Out of his League *OR* How much coke does 70 million buy?

NO SPOILERS

Zack Snyder's Justice League is a bad movie... and a long one at that.

I speak much about the elephantine levels of hubris in the film industry, as well as it's impact on the quality and presentation of storytelling in this medium. This movie is a quintessential example of those assertions.

Zack Snyder does not know how to manage a story, any story... All show, no tell within.

This 4 hour completion of the film Mr. Snyder had to leave for personal reasons, is a repudiation of the work that his replacement (Joss Whedon) on the theatrically released version presented.

I'm not going to say that there aren't some good ideas here. The story as presented is more coherent than Whedon's, the action has more energy, and the characters are given more time to breathe... too much time.

Here's the problem folks: Zack Snyder doesn't understand these characters at all, never did. How can you screw up SUPERMAN? Zack found a way. He also found a way to pack a movie so clumsily with ponderous, self important, doleful fluff (with extra Nick Cave) that he kind of forgets what the movie's supposed to be about... you know, superheroes and shit.

This need to grim-dark fun childhood fantasies is tired business that should only be handled by sure hands with an understanding of the material before they lock a script. You can't hide ineptitude behind an orgy of design. I dont give a damn how good it looks, if you can't pull it all together, and be able to be objective about your work, you have nothing.

Warner’s paid 70 million extra, on top of over 300 million for the theatrical cut, for 4 hours of NOTHING.

SEE IT: If you're one of the folks that clamored for this (some have claimed bot farms were involved) the fact that the crowd came together for this gives me hope for better movies deserving a second chance.

DON'T: If- like, you're just over it man.

POST SCRIPT: Zack Snyder had to walk away from finishing post production on the theatrical version of this film because of the suicide of his daughter AUTUMN, for whom this film is also dedicated.

I may not like his movies, but I feel for this fellow human and wish him well in his recovery.

Suicide is no joke. There are resources available such as the NATIONAL SUICIDE HOTLINE: 800-273-8255, as well as local support.

Help is available, so don't be afraid to ask.
